CARISBROOK

Just minutes away from Maryborough your 'getaway' is not complete without the friendly welcome extended by the folks of Carisbrook.

Easily accessed from Castlemaine, Maldon, Daylesford and Bendigo, Carisbrook is a pleasant town of several hundred people.  A former gold mining town it possesses some fine old bluestone buildings.

Carisbrook is home to the old log goal.  Constructed around 1852 it is part of the rich heritage waiting to be discovered in the streets of this enchanting village.
Carisbrook is also the birthplace of Tilly Aston born 1873. This amazing lady, despite the loss of her sight at an early age, became an accomplished writer, poet, musician and teacher. She  initiated the Braille Library and the Association for the Advancement for the Blind in Victoria (now Vision Australia).

Post a letter from the quaint 1880's red brick post office or purchase some old fashioned boiled sweets from the restaurant and souvenir shop nearby.

Many picturesque picnic spots beckon you to relax with a hamper or barbecue.  Along the creek at Bucknall Reserve a quiet shady location can be enjoyed.

Only minutes from Carisbrook is Cairn Curran where superb sunsets, great fishing and boating facilities are awaiting the visitor.

The rich pastoral history of the area is evidenced in the bluestone remains of gracious homes dotted around the countryside near Moolort.  Tucked away along country roads are significant wetlands with landscapes and birdlife that make excellent photographic opportunities.

The historic village of Majorca, a short drive from Carisbrook is nestled amongst the remains of gold mining heritage.  It is hard to imagine the main street of Majorca bustling with gold miners and well supplied with stores of all varieties.  Host farm accommodation and horse riding are available and the area is well suited to cyclists.

A tranquil atmosphere settles around this beautiful mural landscape, with fishing and bushwalking through the Majorca forest freely available.
