 Maryborough district was first settled as early as 1837 by the Scottish Simson brothers, who started sheep farming in the district.  Once gold was found, the population quickly grew - by 1855 there were up to 53,000 people living in the area.  Maryborough was named in 1854 by  Commissioner James Daly after his home town in Ireland.
Maryborough Resource Centre
which incorporates a Library, Internet, exhibition space, Visitor Information Centre and Community Information Centre. Opened on 13 September 2001, the building is on the former site of Branton's General Hardware and Timber Merchants.
Maryborough Court House
Designed by S. E. Brindley the court house was considered to be of considerable beauty when it was opened in 1893. Several of the large paving in front were quarried in Castlemaine, some weigh over a ton.
Maryborough Post Office.
The foundation stone of this building was laid in 1877.post office officials took possession the following year. Still in operation as a post office today. The chiming clock tower was added 
in 1879
The Town Hall & Wilkinson Fountain
The foundation stone for the Town Hall was laid in 1887, above the door you can see the Maryborough Coat of Arms which bears the word "Havillah" which is taken from the Book of Genesis in the Bible and means place where there is gold. The Wilkinson fountain outside the front of the Town hall is a memorial to the first Maryborough soldier to die in war. Gerald Wilkinson a corporal in the Tullibardines Scottish Horse was killed in action during the Boer war in 1901.
Built of Malmsbury bluestone with four red granite columns imported from Scotland. At the sides are drinking basins for dogs.
The Bull & Mouth Hotel.
This hotel occupies the same site as the original Bull & mouth of 1854. The current building opened in 1904. A very imposing structure in the Italian Renaissance style, it still operates as a hotel today
Princes Park,
The park contains many features of note. The grandstand was constructed in 1895 and was modeled on the Lake Oval in South Melbourne. There are cast iron gates with the names of soldiers lost in battle. The ticket box was built in 1908 at a cost of 10 pounds. The oval is still used for events today. The Band rotunda was built to permanently commemorate the towns Golden Jubilee, the lacework was provided by a local business Robinsons Soho Foundry. It was designed by the Town Clerk Mr. H.N. Phillips and is classified by the National Trust. The horse trough along Park Rd is one of many to be found all over country Victoria, courtesy of the Bills Trust, note the smaller drinking bowls at the side these are for dogs.
Court Of Mines
The Court of Mines was built by A Amos & Co in 1858,  using stone quarried at Bristol Hill it was first used as a Court House, then as a Mining Board office. It is the oldest public building in Maryborough.
Old Fire Station. 
One of the town's earliest buildings built in 1861. The existing tower
is the third on the site constructed 1888. In 1982 the fire brigade moved to new premises, the original Neill street building is now home to the Central Goldfields Art Gallery.
Tren Du Bourg Hall
Opened originally as an Australian Labour Party Hall in 1927-28, it replaced an earlier wooden building which was the Temperance Hall. Features of this building are its simple decorated parapet facade, its size, symmetrical main elevation, stringcourse and side porch.
Maryborough Regional College. (former School of Mines)
The foundation stone was laid in 1890 and the east wing was ready for classes the following year.
It was re-named in 1903 as Maryborough Technical School. It became the District Secondary College in 1992.
Worsley Cottage & Museum
is situated in 3 Palmerston St
Built in 1894 and now the home of the Maryborough-Midlands Historical Society.
Worsley Cottage has records of birth's death's and marriages, plus war and hospital records. It also has memorabilia of Tilly Ashton founder of the Blind Association. 
A great collection of effects from another era.
Mandeville Coffee Palace
This privately owned building was once the site of the Yorkshire Hotel circa 1863.In the early twentieth century Coffee palaces became very fashionable in Maryborough. Meals could be obtained for the price of one shilling. Although this building can only be viewed from the outside all the signage has been retained.
The Paramount Cinema.
Opened on the 19th of October 1926 the first film was "Graustark" starring Norma Talmadge.
this Art-Deco building now houses a twin cinema and is open most days for current movies.
Bristol Hill Tower Miners Rd 
The foundation stone was laid in 1932 .The spiral staircase was built using bluestone from the Maryborough Gaol. This is also the site of the original Maryborough cemetery it is located at the base of Bristol Hill over 300 graves were at this site in 1850's.
Phillip's Gardens
Established in 1874. Originally cleared as a dam, with the water used for fire-fighting and town use. Lack of water was a problem in Maryborough's early days.  There are many exotic trees in the gardens one of the most interesting is the Bunya Bunya Pine which bears large cones weighing up to 8 kilograms which usually fall in March/April.
Maryborough Railway Station
The magnificent Maryborough Railway Station was built in 1890. It has tessellated tiles from Cawkwells of Malvern (who also laid the tiles for Parliament House in Melbourne) and beautiful timber ceilings. View the huge ovens in the kitchen, browse the huge range of antiques and collectables in the Antique Emporium,
and enjoy a coffee or a light lunch in the Station cafe. Walk along the wide platform. 
In the 1950's up to 48 passenger trains passed through Maryborough daily but services ceased in 1993.
