Experience the Central Goldfields

Located in the heart of Victoria's Goldfields region, Maryborough has much to offer the visitor - historic gold rush buildings, beautiful parks and gardens, antiques, art and food and wine.

Mark Twain once described Maryborough as a "railway station with a town attached". The historic railway station, which has one of the southern hemisphere's longest platforms, still stands and is home to an antique emporium, art gallery, regional wine centre and restaurant.

For the art lover, a visit to the Central Goldfields Regional Art Gallery is a must. Housed in the old fire station, it specialises in contemporary exhibitions.

Enjoy the local bush with a walk in the Paddys Ranges State Park or go fossicking for gold. The surrounding area is also home to a number of boutique wineries offering full flavoured reds. Fine foods are available throughout the region and Maryborough's fine dining establishments offer a variety of cuisine to suit all tastes. There are also many cosy cafes, take-away restaurants and delightful bakeries.

With the new MKM Shopping Centre now open 'retail therapy' in Maryborough must be experienced. Maryborough has many interesting retailers from the smaller to larger variety stores, pharmacies and supermarkets.

There are many high quality events held in the Central Goldfields Shire. The renowned Maryborough Highland Gathering, the RACV Energy Breakthrough or the National Trust Heritage Festival held each year. Talbot is home to one of Victoria’s leading farmers markets every third Sunday of the month and must not be missed for all your seasonal delights and fresh produce.

No matter what time of the year, Maryborough and district is the perfect place to spend a fun-filled day, or if time allows, an extended visit.
