Bordered by Napier, Inkerman and Alma Sts, features beautiful trees, shrubs and grassed picnic areas. The lake was originally a dam for the supply of water for gold mining. The lake has recently been redesigned to include a new wetlands area and already the bird life in the area has increased. It is also home to the growling grass frog which can be heard rather than seen. The botanic gardens was first planted in the 1870s. It contains many interesting tree species. A favourite picnic spot.
